Matrix stands for "Mesh Access Technology Roaming Internet Exchange." This is a new type of wireless exchange, based on the latest research from Cambridge UK, specifically designed to make mesh routing work optimally with the 802.11IEEE Wi-Fi standards.

Matrix architecture optimises the performance of multiple-hop mesh networks for the first time creating a viable platform for deivering the mobile "triple play" of services (information/Internet, video/TV and voice/telephone) across entire cities. Previously, mesh networks were inhibited by the problem of performance loss across multiple hops - what they call "multiple hop degradation." Matrix technology, developed in Cambridge UK, provides the opportunity to finally roll-out wi-fi mesh across cities creating fully mobile networks delivering speeds of up to 100Mbps. Our intelligent system improves performance by up to 80% compared with other mesh networks.
